A suicide attack in the Bisham area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan killed six: among them, five are Chinese nationals working on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor site. China asked Pakistan to investigate the matter thoroughly. However, Pakistan called it “an attempt to destabilize Pakistan and sowing the seed of discord between China and Pakistan”. It has been an uptick in terrorist attacks in Pakistan for the last three years. These terrorists are attacking Chinese nationals primarily. Both China and Pakistan are concerned about the attacks. CPEC has the key position for both China and Pakistan. Securing CPEC means securing the national interests of both China and Pakistan. CPEC is the flagship project of China’s “Belt and Road Initiative”. Belt and Road Initiative is a Chinese project linking China through road and sea routes with the rest of the world. Under this project, China is investing in more than 150 countries and International Organizations. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is key to the” Belt and Road Initiative”. Moreover, Pakistan’s struggling economy is primarily dependent on this project for its energy and infrastructural issues. These multiple security failure attacks not only jeopardize the completion of the project but also can erode the trust on both sides. Both sides needed to work on security issues as it is a common challenge. The collaboration can be intelligence sharing and joint training for combating terrorism.
